Many families celebrate the 4th of July together.
Print the same list for each family from the Scavenger Hunt selection. Choose “patriotic” items like something red, white, and blue or cemetery, support our troops ribbon, or city hall. You can even add your own ideas.
Each family brings/is given a camera and travels together throughout town to take a picture of each thing on the list. Set a time for everyone to return and see who has found the most.

Using the object list hunt feature on Riddle Me, print a list of US history related items, for example; cherry tree leaf, something with a star, candlestick, book on history, or you can put your own ideas on the list. Divide the children into red, white and blue teams. See how fast each team can find all the items.

Put clues to the each location inside red, white, and blue balloons. On the outside of the balloon, once it is inflated, write a simple question about Independence Day on it with a permanent marker or print them out and tape them to the balloon. Then hide them in the locations you generated with Riddle Me.
When the players come to each location, they must read the question first. When they answer it correctly, they may pop the balloon to get the next clue.  The players should be allowed some help or be able to access the internet to look up some of the answers that stump them.
Possible questions:
What is the name of the paper that was signed declaring independence?
In what year was the Declaration of Independence signed?
How many colonies united to declare independence?
Name one person who signed the Declaration of Independence.
Who was the first president of the United States?
What country did the colonies declare their independence from?
How many stripes are on the flag and why?
What do the stars on the flag represent?
What is the name of the national anthem?
What is one way people celebrate Independence Day?

Have a paper representing the Declaration of Independence. Select locations you want the children to go to from Riddle Me’s hunt inventory.
On the back of your declaration paper put the first clue and only half of the clue for each of the other locations. Then hide the other half of the clues with an item in each of the other locations. The items with the clues could be something like sunglasses, paper money, a piece of carved wood – items similar to the movie. Give the children the map and have them read the first clue. It will send them to the first location and the rest of the second clue.
The final clue would lead them to the “treasure”.  It could be a cake decorated like the flag or gold coin candies.

Have the children pretend they are the messengers telling each of the thirteen colonies of their independence!
Select thirteen locations from the Riddle Me inventory. Give each location the name of one of the thirteen colonies (Virginia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.) Place a copy of each states flag in the location.
Start your hunt by giving the children a clue to send them to the first “state”. When they find it, they should say, “Happy Independence Day (and the states name)!” Then read the next clue to the next location or “state”. Have them bring each flag with them so in the end all the the thirteen colonies flags will be together – becoming the original United States.
You could make a parade with sparklers and the flags while everyone sings “America the Beautiful”.

Make 50 “riddle” eggs and hide them all over a large field or playground.  Create an answer sheet (in alphabetical order by the first letter in the riddle) and distribute to any helpers.
Divide the group into teams of 3 or 4 children.  They will work as a team to solve the riddles.  Give each team a pencil and paper to write down their answers.  Also, each team gets two “hint vouchers” which they could use in exchange for a hint to help them solve the riddle. When they want to use a hint voucher, they just have to go to one of the helpers with the answer key. Use them wisely for each team only receives two hints.
Have a time limit.  At the end, the team with the most correctly solved riddles wins, although you could give everyone a prize for participating.

Make a riddle hunt with 9 or 10 clues using Riddle Me. Print out the list of scriptures listed below and cut into separate strips. Put your clues, scripture references, and a piece of candy inside some hollow, plastic eggs. Important: The scripture references must go in order.   On the final clue, don’t put a piece of candy inside the egg. It should remain “empty” to symbolize the empty tomb.   (You may choose to add a 10th clue to have them find the last egg  and an Easter treat surprise.)

(5)
Mark 8:35-36
35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.

Mark 16:4-6
4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
(10)
Luke 24:36-40
36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.

Easter Service Project Scavenger Hunt Idea

Print a list of service project items from the Riddle Me Scavenger Hunt feature.  Insert each one into a plastic, hollow egg.  Hide the eggs around the area.  As they find each egg, they should go perform the service for someone in your home.
With adult supervision, this could be done in a youth group within your neighborhood or among people you know. (Never let children go door to door unsupervised).

Make a riddle treasure hunt using Riddle Me.

Choose a cookie recipe and print a list of ingredients. Cut the page to separate the list into 1 or 2 ingredients per slip of paper. Put your clues and ingredient slips in some hollow, plastic eggs and hide them in the locations you have selected.

As the hunters find each egg and pull out the clue and ingredient, have them go to the kitchen and put that ingredient into the mix. Then go to the next clue to find the next ingredient.

When you’re all done, you can mix and bake the cookies. Then you could take them to a neighbor, to someone elderly that you know or someone in need.

Here’s a simple chocolate chip cookie recipe you can use, or of course, use one of your own:
